The Bahamas department of meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning from 10:30pm edt sunday 30th august, 2015 until 12:30am monday 31st august 2015.
A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for the grand bahama and the berry islands along with their adjacent waters and cays.
At 10:30 pm observations, lightning detector data and satellite imagery showed organized thunderstorms over the aforementioned islands rapidly building across the area.
Some of these thunderstorms will be severe at times causing strong gusty winds, dangerous lightning, heavy downpours, hail and possible waterspout or tornadic activity. Localized flooding in low lying and flood prone areas will continue to occur in heavy or severe rainfall events.
Boaters in the warning areas should seek safe harbour and residents in the warning areas should stay indoors and away from windows when conditions worsen. Residents should not seek shelter under trees or in water as these can become lightning conductors.
