Plans set for BOMAC Cage Fights 2

Less than four months after hosting the first mixed martial arts (MMA) cage-fighting event in The Bahamas, Beast Mode Fight Team Chief Instructor Dr. Kent Bazard and his crew are ready to put on the second edition of the cage-fighting display, which was also a part of the Bahamas Open Martial Arts Championships (BOMAC). BOMAC 2 is set for August 29 at the Breezes Beach Resort, and gets underway at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $25 for general admission, $35 for ringside seats and $50 for VIP. Tickets can be purchased at both Outdoor Sportsman locations, J Line Fitness Center and Seafront Sushi.

The main event of the evening will feature Rico Farrington against Mike Perry, while Robert Turnquest will take on Amisial Smith in the co-main event. Other fights on the 15-match card include Joash Walkins vs John Cicio and Melanie Camden against Gillian Robertson, in what will be the first female MMA fight in The Bahamas. Team beast mode fighters will also be represented in six of the fights.

"I think that the fans will be in for a good show," said Bazard in an interview with The Nassau Guardian. "We have professional match makers come in and try to decipher what would be the best match ups to put on the best fight, and I really think that they did a good job with this one. Both fighters in the main event are Bahamian born, although Rico does his training in the United States. I really think that Perry will be a good fight for him, and as far as the co-main event is concerned, I haven't had the chance to see Turnquest fight, but a few fighters from his camp will be coming down to fight as well."

Bazard said that this event is being billed to be almost twice the size of the first BOMAC Cage Fighting event, which was put on back in April at Mario's Bowling Palace. He said that he has had several international camps get in contact with him regarding 'BOMAC 2' and that he even had to turn some fighters down, because he didn't want the fight card to be too long. "It's not hard to find fighters that want to come to The Bahamas to fight," said Bazard. "Since we held the first BOMAC Cage fights I have had fighters and camps from all over the United States inquiring on how they could become a part of the second show."

As for Team Beast Mode, veteran fighters Tyson "Kamikaze" Isaacs, Dijonaisse "DJ" Brown, Pierre "Sniper" Simmons, Kenny Neymour, Jawara Pierre and Cameron Lewis will all be in action at BOMAC 2. "Our preparation for this show has been a bit different from others in the past," said Bazard. "Our training camp has been going very well, and we have also been working with members of the Bahamas Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (BBFF) with some of our weight training, so I think we're rolling right now. Fighting at home is always an advantage, and I think it will help to energize our fighters even more when they get out there." The event is being sanctioned by the Bahamas Martial Arts Federation and the Florida State Athletic Commission (FSAC), and Gatorade will serve as its official sponsor.

Following the BOMAC 2, Bazard said they have a women's only fight card coming up on October 3rd, in support of breast cancer awareness month called Fight for the Cure, and another on December 20th. The name for that event hasn't been released as yet.
