PACKED HOUSE, 100% OCCUPANCY – Romora Bay Resort and Marina on Harbour Island experiences record numbers, part of a 20% overall increase in yachting business in one year for the relatively new marina which recently installed the island’s largest reverse osmosis water system among other infrastructural improvements and amenities. Two days before American Independence, Romora Bay Resort and Marina reported experiencing record numbers of boaters with 100% occupancy at its docks, one of several marina-business trends its general manager said bode well for Harbour Island.

Among those trends – larger boats, longer stays, with yachting visitors contributing more to the Bahamian economy.

“Yachting numbers in The Bahamas have seen a steady increase over the last three years,” said Romora Bay Resort and Marina General Manager Joe Dargavage. “The yachts are getting larger and the length of stay per yacht is increasing.

At Romora Bay Resort and Marina we have seen an increase of 20% in yacht traffic over 2014. With both the US and Bahamian Independence in early July, our marina is full to capacity with record breaking numbers, which equates to higher tourism revenue for the entire island.”

Under the management of Dargavage, who also serves as the Vice President of the Marina Operators of The Bahamas, the resort has undergone major room renovations and added amenities including a new 17,000 gallon per day Reverse Osmosis water system, the largest on the island, fiber optic high-speed Wi-Fi throughout the marina, and generator upgrades to the marina, providing yachts with full power backup at all times.

“We set out to do whatever it took to ensure that Romora Bay Resort and Marina would emerge as the premier destination for sportsfish and megayachts in Harbour Island.

As we were working toward our goal, investing in infrastructural improvements and new amenities, the boating world itself was evolving with the production and unveiling of megayachts in greater numbers than ever before.

Also, the sportsfish industry that had taken a bit of a dive when fuel prices were sky-high has rebounded and The Bahamas is benefitting,” said Dargavage.

“So not only has there been a measurable increase in boating traffic to Harbour Island and throughout The Bahamas, but the larger boats are bringing larger numbers, staying longer, spending more and getting to know more of the islands.

It’s a far different world from the quick day trip boating to the northern Bahamas that I first knew decades ago and I am pleased that Romora Bay is taking its rightful place in this new boating world as the premier destination in Harbour Island.”

Romora Bay Resort and Marina is located 223 miles east of Miami, Florida, just south of Bay Street on Harbour Island.
