Dr. Michael Darville, at the Ministry on Thursday. The group was accompanied by their principal, Norris Bain and head track coach, Nickito Johnson.
During the visit, the Minister said Kendrick Thompson, Ricardo Richardson, Ken Russell, Javan Martin, Holland Martin and Jonathan Smith are "some of the finest young Grand Bahamian athletes and their performances locally, nationally and internationally have been nothing short of phenomenal."
The team is celebrating a number of accomplishments, among them: breaking the national record at the National High School Championships in the 4x1. As a result, they were presented with $5,000 to assist with travel expenses to Penn Relays.
The Ministry for Grand Bahama also assisted with their travel. Said the Minister, "I am pleased, therefore, that these young men did a stellar job and won the title of Small School Boys Champions, ahead of 400 plus other schools in the USA, which is the single greatest accomplishment for any school in the Commonwealth of The Bahamas."
On behalf of the government, the Minister congratulated the team for their accomplishment at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia and encouraged them to continue to strive for excellence. Minister Darville quoted Oprah Winfrey, "Running is the greatest metaphor for life, because you get out of it what you put into it."
