WSC Hosts Community Fair in Pinewood

The best way to spend a Saturday is with your family, engaging in activities full of fun for people of all ages, and the Water and Sewerage Corporations (WSC) brought that to life over the weekend for families in the Pinewood Gardens Community.

The Corporation organised a Community Fair to advise residents in Pinewood Gardens about water services that will soon be available in their area. A project is expected to begin shortly, to lay water lines to serve over 700 households that do not currently have access to city water and currently rely on untreated private water supplies.

The event was organised so that families and children could enjoy free food, bouncy castles, face painting and more while their parents learned about the construction work, and the importance of using properly treated city water. During the community fair, residents were allowed to sign up for WSC services for free. Hundreds of families enjoyed the fair with one hundred and fourteen families signing up for services at the fairgrounds.

“We were very pleased with the turnout to Saturday’s Fair,” noted Visna Armbrister, WSC Public Affairs Manager. “We spoke to numerous residents in the area and they were excited to be joining our customer list. We were also able to share with them our new and easier payment options which they all seemed very pleased with.”

In addition to providing customers an opportunity to sign up for services, the Corporation gave out various prizes throughout the day including a washing machine donated by Furniture Plus – who was the co-sponsor of the community fair. After the community fair was over, the grand prizewinner was drawn, and Pinewood resident, Wendy Colebroke was the lucky winner.

“The turnout for the recent Water & Sewerage event was a very good one, with lots of Pinewood Gardens residents taking advantage of the offer for free connection to the main WSC water system,” said Thomas Carey, Furniture Plus Evening Store Supervisor. “This offer was made even more rewarding with the automatic entry to the Furniture Plus drawing for a FREE Kenmore Washing Machine. This promotion allowed customers to get information from Furniture Plus on the vast array of furniture, appliances, electronics, mattresses, financing and so much more that is available at Furniture Plus. It was a win-win for everyone that participated and attended!” “It is always a pleasure to have an opportunity to partner with Bahamian companies both private and public, for the benefit of our customers, potential and existing,” added Krystynia Lee d’Arville, Furniture Plus VP Sales, Marketing & Organizational Development. “We want to thank those that came to our table asking questions about what Furniture Plus has to offer, as well as thank the Water & Sewerage Company for offering this to many Bahamian home-owners, and establishing this event for the betterment of existing home-owners.”

Residents from selected areas of Pinewood Gardens including Sapodilla Boulevard, Cottonwood, Rosewood, Sugar Apple, Breadfruit, and Guinep Tree Streets are invited to apply online or visit the Corporation’s main office on Thompson Boulevard by May 31, 2015 to sign up for a free water connection.

WSC urges Pinewood Gardens residents and the public to visit WSC’s website, http://www.wsc.com.bs/ for more information, to request services, to learn more about services offered, and various convenient payment options including online bill pay and e- notifications.
