Lactation counselor Mamma Rosa is passionate about breastfeeding

Last week I wrote about why a lactation consultation and breastfeeding class is so important. Mentioned, were some of the most common myths and reasons why electing to take a class or opting for a private consultation are important contributing factors in the most successful breastfeeding outcomes.

At Bun in the Oven, we have three certified lactation counselors (CLC) who are available to help and guide the entire breastfeeding process. Starting before the birth of your baby, we recommend taking a class that will prepare you for breastfeeding your baby right after birth, ensuring that breastfeeding gets off to the best possible start. After the baby is born, most women experience some level of uncertainty when deciding whether or not to breastfeed. CLCs address all of these common concerns and questions and offer support and techniques that are invaluable to whatever your personal breastfeeding goals are.

I'd like to introduce the faces behind the names, so let's meet our newest CLC who I like to call "Mamma Rosa". She happens to be Italian, a mother of four and grandmother of three. Over 36 years ago, Rosa moved from Europe to The Bahamas to marry a young Bahamian. Passionate about breastfeeding and having breastfed her own children, she wanted to help other women, who like her, desperately needed support during one of the most life changing events -- so she decided to join, the La Leche League (www.llli.org), which was in Nassau at the time. The La Leche League is a non-profit international organization dedicated to providing support to breastfeeding women.

Rosa has been helping women breastfeed their children for over 30 years. Her warm and effervescent personality makes you feel at home in her presence. She is warm, caring and compassionate -- everything you would imagine a good Italian mamma to be. She's a fantastic cook and never hesitates to make a big pot of her famous chicken noodle soup for anyone she knows is sick. Her empathy and kind heart, paired with her passion for children and women, make it an easy decision to want to seek her support.

If you have any questions about breastfeeding, give us a call or email us. We're happy to help.

Love and hugs.
