Grand Bahama’s First Dog Days Half Marathon Run is gaining huge momentum, and is pleased to announce that event will now be called the “Dog Days Half Marathon in Memory of Sir Jack Hayward”, due to generous sponsorship form the St. George and Hayward families.

“We all know of Sir Jack’s years of support to the Grand Bahama Humane Society,” said Nikki Waugh, co-event Chairman. “With this donation we will now be able to give a cash prizes for the winners of the female and male half marathon.”

Race organizers, Siobhan Antoni-Bates and Nikki Waugh approached the family in hopes of making this an event to continue celebrating Sir Jack Hayward as a humanitarian, business entrepreneur and family man. “We felt that is was really appropriate that this race be named in memory of Sir Jack Hayward and serve as a remembrance of his influence on Grand Bahama,” said Antoni-Bates.

“The families were all thrilled to help, as soon as we were approached by the organizers we knew we had a role to play” said Mr. Michael Clough, spokesperson. Each winner will be given a five hundred dollar cash prize at the Bahamas Adventures, where the awards ceremony and starts will take place. “The families wanted to make sure that we encourage as many people to come out and race, what better way than cash prizes!” said Antoni-Bates. “We are so thankful and honored to name this race after Sir Jack Hayward.”

The race, which consists of a Half Marathon, 13.1 Relay, 5k and Fun One Mile Run/Walk is schedule to make its inaugural debut the first weekend in May. The event, which was organized due to a postponed tourism event, has already raised a considerable sponsorship and funding which will benefit the Grand Bahama Humane Society, one of Sir Jack’s many philanthropies.

Race organizers are also pleased to announce that the race will include chip timing, with the latest timing technology programmed into each runners bib. Meaning that runners can be officially registered, timed and recorded with accuracy. Additionally water stations throughout the courses will carry Dasani water as well as PowerAde, sponsored by Coca Cola company.

Race organisers are also pleased to announce that registered participant will receive pre race swag bags that will include Dog Days t-shirt, sun lotions, a water bottle, fashion bracelets, key chains, Chap Stick and much more.
