On the day that Christians commemorated Jesus Christ's crucifixion, known as Good Friday, New Birth Church, led by Pastors Bruce and Shaniqua Davis, and its members opted to move beyond indulging in hot cross buns and fried fish.

The church and its members did good deeds for people who could not return the favor through its Good Deeds on Good Friday initiative. They gave away bags of groceries and clothes for adults and children.

At the good deeds event, professional hair stylists, dentists and medical personnel were on-hand at the R.M. Bailey Park, doing their good deeds through the offering of hair care from shampoos and styles to cuts and braiding; dentists did dental checks; health checks were also made available.

Those people attending who felt they had nothing to offer, were able to offer up "the gift of life" by donating to the Princess Margaret Hospital and Doctors Hospital blood banks, as personnel were on site collecting blood donations from eligible donors.

The outreach was a big deal for the six-year-old church, located in the Heastie Building at #85 Robinson Road. It's something Bruce Davis said God impressed upon his heart to do.

"As a young church we're limited in what we can do, but I needed to reach my city, and my conviction has always been that you do the best you can where you're at.

The whole premise behind this event is really to do good to those who can't return the favor."
