New Shell fuel enhanced to boost mileage, reduce deposit buildup

Sun Oil Limited has introduced its fuel economy initiative through its enhanced Shell Unleaded Fuel, designed to provide motorists extra miles at no extra cost. This new evolution in Shell fuels has been scientifically tested and is currently used in 17 countries around the world. The Bahamas became the 18th when Sun Oil, the Shell licensee for The Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos, launched the new fuel recently.

At a cocktail reception held at the Melia Nassau Beach resort, Sun Oil executives Anthony Robinson and Clayton Rolle joined Shell Regional Brand License Manager Amos Ramos and Shell Scientist Michael Howe, based in Houston, Texas to explain to Bahamians the benefits of the new fuel.

The new Shell fuel is expected to increase mileage, but requires motorists to maintain their vehicles, and in some instances change their driving habits. The enhanced fuel will also help to prevent the build-up of deposits that can harm engine performance over time.
Scientific analysis suggests that with a cleaner engine, the vehicle produces better combustion so the fuel is used with greater efficiency thus producing the extra miles.

Chairman of Sun Oil's parent company FOCOL, Franklyn Wilson, described the launch of the new fuel as "a good day for the motorist in The Bahamas". He indicated that it comes at an opportune time because it could "save money on fuel and the maintenance of vehicles".

Wilson said it was, "a significant development for the company because it is strategic in terms of getting public understanding that all fuels are not necessarily equal. So this idea of running from one service station to the next because one is cheaper than the other on that particular day is not necessarily smart. The fact of the matter is this product that Shell has brought into the market place gives you extra miles at no extra cost".

Shell Senior Fuel Scientist Michael Howe, who works as part of Shell's product development team, used a PowerPoint presentation and tangible engine parts to explain comprehensively how the process of fuel efficiency is designed to impact vehicles. He also explained the science of creating the fuel enhancer which has been tried and tested in many other countries. He encouraged the audience to test the fuel and determine the impact for themselves, keeping in mind the responsibilities of the consumer to service their vehicles and employ effective driving habits.

"Fuel development of the fuel is not a simple thing. You have regulations that you have to follow, environmental factors to consider and extensive laboratory work in creating the product and testing the product to ensure it can do what it is designed to do," Howe explained.

Wilson also noted that "well-run companies should try to find ways to bring more value to their customers in these difficult economic times and this fuel designed to provide consumers extra miles at no extra cost is a classic example," said Wilson.

Sun Oil is the largest petroleum distributor in The Bahamas and in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Its assets encompass retail service stations; including 14 sites in New Providence and five bulk terminal operations spread across the islands of The Bahamas and Turks and Caicos and bulk propane operations.
