The Water and Sewerage Corporation (WSC) is proud to have once again supported the Primary School Student of the Year Programme by donating a $1,000 cheque towards the programme which aids in providing a scholarship award to the country’s best and brightest primary school students during the Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year award programme.

"We are happy to sponsor the Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Programme once again,” said Cheri Hanna, Assistant General Manager, Human Resources Division, WSC.

“We have been sponsors for a number of years, and support the foundation in their efforts.”

This year is the 18th year of the Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Programme, which has recognised over 1,663 students and awarded over $800,000 in scholarships and prizes.

Moreover, the programme has grown significantly from the initial 31 students that were recognised from all Nassau schools, to the now 118 students that are recognised from schools from Abaco, Andros, Bimini, Berry Islands, Cat Island, Crooked Island, Eleuthera, Exuma, Grand Bahama, Inagua, Long Island, New Providence, Rum Cay and San Salvador.

“We would like to thank the Water and Sewerage Corporation for their kind donation in helping to promote and award excellence,” said Daxton Bethel, of the Bahamas Primary School Student Foundation President.

WSC extends their best wishes to all the nominees in this year’s Primary School Student of the Year Programme, and look forward to supporting the programme in the future. To learn more about the programme visit their website at http://www.bahamaspstoy.org/

The Water and Sewerage Corporation was established through an Act in 1976 with full responsibilities for managing, maintaining, distributing and developing the water resources of The Bahamas.

The Corporation has a team of over 400 dedicated employees in New Providence and the Family Islands, committed to the growth and excellence in service quality, which is the key driving force that guides and sustains the relationships with customers, employees, and communities served by the Corporation.

Through a loan with the IDB in 2011 the Water and Sewerage Corporation has developed the WSC Support Program to address Non-Revenue Reduction, WSC Institutional Strengthening, Rehabilitation and Upgrade of Wastewater Infrastructure and Preparation of a Wastewater Treatment Master Plan and an upgrade of the Legal and Regulatory Framework. The Support Program will ultimately improve the quality of water and service to customers.
