The 31-year-old man who was shot and killed on Plantol Street on Monday night was a painter by profession and the father of a six-year-old girl, his family said yesterday. Rannardo Johnson was one of four people shot. A second man also died and the other two men were still in hospital yesterday, police said.

"I don't know if she understands," said Johnson's sister, Deandra Davis, referring to his daughter. "It's not real. Our family is a big family and we are close. Every time I come to [this home], we have a grandmother who is 96, and every time I come here he's always around. He always has something to say that would make you laugh."

Johnson's father and other relatives sat inside the family's home on Plantol Street yesterday. They did not wish to speak about him. In the family's living room, his grandmother sat looking at family photos that lined the home, many of him as a child. Another relative drove to the home, off Collin's Avenue, to speak with the family. Within minutes she was in tears. Davis said she wished she had more time with her brother.

"Growing up, we weren't really as close, but as we got older we got closer," she told The Guardian. "I just always wish I was around more, just a little more. I saw him Sunday and then today he's gone. "It still feels like he might come through the door any minute now and say, 'Hey D, what you saying?'

"I only got the phone call from my dad letting me know that he was shot and he died. It still hasn't sunk in yet. I just saw him on Sunday and he was right through the corner just chilling, like he always does."

The family's home is located near the site of the shooting. According to police, around 8:15 p.m. a man was standing on Plantol Street when several people in a silver van or "SUV-type vehicle" drove onto the street and started shooting, hitting that man and three others. Johnson and another man, later identified as Henry Dudley Johnson, 18, died at the scene, police said. One of the dead men was shot in the head, the other in the chest, police said. Rannardo Johnson's relatives said Henry Johnson was not related to them. The latest killings brought the country's murder count to 20 for 2015.
