Lukka Kairi opens its doors for charity

A unique “theater” in the round setting, an open kitchen which has the effect of table side chefs is Lukka Kairi, the newest restaurant and bar to hit the scene where they boast that they are serving up fresh Bahamian flavors.

The menu offers creativity and allows patrons to choose a combination of small plates so they can try many flavors, think corn conch fritters, cracked conch with shaved fennel salad, shrimp and grits, plantain crusted catch of the day, a tropical curry chicken with coconut milk, ginger, pineapple and cilantro or tamarind ribs.

Dining takes place in a restaurant that has been designed in a unique Bahamian style — exposing Bahamian art and craftsmanship on its walls, floors and bar. It’s a beautiful venue, delicious food and spectacular view at the restaurant located on Woodes Rodgers Walk between the Straw Market and Pompey Square.

Monica Hutchinson and Alpheus Ramsey Jr. are executive chefs at the new eatery. Hutchinson’s past work includes culinary producer for Top Chef All-Stars finale in The Bahamas; and Rescue Chef on Food Network. She has styled food for television, print and the web for the likes of Bobby Flay, Emeril Lagasse, Martha Stewart, Rachel Ray and Fabio Viviani.

The Lukka Kairi mission is to create an iconic Bahamian cultural experience through food, drinks, entertainment and décor.

Lukka Kairi seats over 200 people in its tri-level dining floor and bar. Each level is designed to provide an ocean view from any angle inside the restaurant.

The restaurant which threw open its doors to the Bahamian public a few days ago will host its grand opening charity event tonight. Each patron will be asked for a $75 donation, with all food and beverages included, with 100 percent of the donations between 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. going to Teen Challenge, a foundation that supports young people with drugs, domestic violence, criminal history and anger problems. By attending the opening night charity event patrons will help Teen Challenge do their work in three areas — inmates in rehab; an orientation program for young people sent by the courts and schools (these meetings can be attended by up to 100 teens per session); the Teen Challenge staff also visit schools as a prevention program. The money will also go towards helping Teen Challenge remodel their dorms, lockers, bathrooms and kitchen.

On behalf of Mr. Arturo Salas and the Lukka Kairi staff, we would like to take this opportunity to thank our community for the tremendous support for the Grand Opening charity event, which sold out quickly.
