St. Anne's MP Hubert Chipman and Montagu MP Richard Lightbourn said they are alarmed by the level of violent crimes that have recently occurred in their constituencies.
They were referring to a recent murder in Blair Estates on Tuesday morning.
According to police, Andre Cartwright, 44, was killed during a home invasion Tuesday morning.
Chipman and Lightbourn said they found National Security Minister Dr. Bernard Nottage's remarks that home invasions are nothing new, insensitive.
"Despite having promised to significantly reduce violent crime, the scourge of crime continues under a government which has offered more talk than action," Chipman and Lightbourn said in a joint statement.
"All of this is a deeply worrying situation, which the minister of national security responded to in a seemingly dismissive fashion.
"As worrying as home invasions are, more troubling is the possibility of being killed while protecting one's home and loved ones, and the possibility of criminals knocking down our doors.
"We urge the minister of national security to do all in his power to address the incidence of robberies in homes, businesses and elsewhere. We further urge him to be more sensitive in the light of such tragedies."
Police also said that a man was murdered on Adderley Street off Johnson Road around 9 p.m. on Tuesday.
Police said he was riding his bicycle when two men emerged from the bushes on the eastern side of the street and shot him.
The Free National Movement MPs said these incidents are deeply disturbing.
"As the members of Parliament for Montagu and [St. Anne's] we are alarmed by the level of criminal violence in these areas, especially as we approach the holiday season," they said.
"We urge residents of New Providence and in our constituencies to secure all of their doors as well as possible."
