NASSAU, Bahamas -- In recent years, Subrennah Gomez-Higgs, Janet Jennings and Jeanine Lampkin have been firing up their ceramic works and appetites for artistic expression under the tutelage of experienced ceramicist, Joann Behagg. Now, the three artists are sharing their works and passion for lifelong creative growth in a show entitled 'Trio '.
The idea was Behagg's. Having taught the three women together in her Saturday ceramic art lessons, Behagg believed each woman's talents would complement the others in an exhibition.
"They seem to gel really well as a group while doing the classes," explained Behagg. "I thought they were ready and had enough skills to have a show."
The show is the first for Jennings and Lampkin and the second for Gomez-Higgs. The exhibition will be held at Doongalik Studios on Village Road and will feature fresh takes on decorative and functional staples like platters, vases, tea sets and candle holders.
Pam Burnside, owner of Doongalik Studios and co-founder of Creative Nassau has lauded Trio for its capacity to inspire Bahamians to 'rediscover' their creative geniuses. "It is always a pleasure to host an exhibition of 'new artists' who have rediscovered their love for art at a later stage in their lives and realize how fulfilling it can be," she said. "We hope that this exhibition will inspire others to follow their passion."
Trio's opening night will be held from 6-9 p.m. on Thursday, October 23. Those interested in supporting the artists or finding out more about ceramics in The Bahamas are encouraged to visit the exhibition, which will be on display Mondays - Wednesdays from 10am - 4pm at Doongalik Studios, #20 Village Road until Wednesday, November 12.
