Severe Weather Warning for NorthWestern New Providence, Northern and Central Andros and the Southern Berry Islands

The Bahamas Departmen of Meteorology has been re-issued a Severe Thunderstorm warning from 2:55pm EDT until 4:30pm Monday, August 18, 2014.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR NORTHWESTERN NEW PROVIDENCE, NORTHERN AND CENTRAL ANDROS AND THE SOUTHERN BERRY ISLANDS, ALONG WITH THEIR ADJACENT WATERS A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED FOR BIMINI.

AT 2:50pm observation, and satellite imagery show a line of thunderstorms associated with daytime heating and tropical moisture associated with a tropical wave just SouthWest of the islands.

Some of these thunderstorms will be severe at times and are capable of causing strong gusty winds, dangerous lighting, heavy downpours, hail and possible waterspout or tornadic activity. LOCALIZED FLOODING COULD OCCUR IN LOW LYING AND FLOOD PRONE AREAS.

Boaters in the warning area should seek safe harbour and residents in the warning area should stay indoors and away from windows when conditionsn worsen. Residents should not seek shelter or under trees or in water as these can become lightening conductors.
