Discipline and focus

The two words in the title of today's article are indeed extremely important for anyone who wishes to live a successful life. So, let's discuss the first one, "discipline". I remember very well an interview I conducted with His Excellency Sir Arthur Foulkes Governor General of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas for my Success Files series some time back. In the interview, I brought up the subject of discipline as it relates to being successful in life, and Sir Arthur stated that it is absolutely essential if one wishes to succeed at anything. Sir Arthur is a journalist by profession and we both chuckled as we spoke about the vital importance of discipline as it relates to writing.
Sometimes when one starts to write a particular piece, your mind goes completely blank, however, you just stay with the task at hand and eventually everything starts to flow, and before you know it, the entire piece is actually finished, and reads real well into the bargain. I also remember interviewing a very famous author Arthur Hailey who wrote so many bestsellers, many of which were made into blockbuster movies, and he admitted that, and these are his exact words, writing was like sweating blood for him. However, he through a strictly disciplined regimen did it and was thus extremely successful at his craft.
Quite frankly, this morning as I sat at my desk ready to write this particular article, my mind went completely blank, and believe me I felt like quitting and just leaving it to another day. However, I didn't, I disciplined myself as I have thank God learnt to do over the years, and viola, here we are.
Now let's deal with the second word in today's title "focus". Of course, before you can commence the process of becoming successful in life, you need to establish a series of specific goals and objectives. Once we have established these goals, it will assist us in staying focused on what we actually wish to achieve in life. In other words, to use another well-known phrase, you've got to keep your eye on the ball at all times if you really want to score and thus win big time.
So these two words really do go hand in hand as it relates to being really successful and indeed totally contented in life. Yes, you need to consistently employ discipline, across the board whilst being truly focused on your goals and objectives at all times. This is surely the way to finally reach success city. Yes it is!
