The spectacular ignorance, bigotry, prejudice and fear-mongering of Myles Munroe

In a wild-eyed jeremiad cum response to an event for gays and lesbians set for Grand Bahama last weekend, Dr. Myles Munroe delivered his latest panic attack assailing gays and lesbians.
It was an overreaction steeped in a morass of fear and disdain for fellow-citizens. Increasingly, Munroe is sounding profoundly anti-democratic and theocratic, more committed to his version of a religious state.
He...

Celebrating the purpose driven life

Dear Editor,
It is neither the desire nor intention of this writer to enter into a prolonged tit for tat exchange with Kevin Evans on theological matters. I would, however, like to take this opportunity to respond to the two closely related issues he has raised in response to my comments -- whether Dr. Myles Munroe "was scared of death" and the relationship between his theological contributions a...

Not a compliment to compare Myles Munroe to Tillich

Dear Editor,
Please kindly permit me to respond to Rev. Dr. J. Emmett Weir's December 8 letter to the editor in The Nassau Guardian. As a doctor of either theology or philosophy, Weir is obviously a highly credentialed clergyman. While I appreciate him taking the time to read my write-up regarding the tragic loss of Dr. Myles Munroe and eight others on November 9, I believe he was sincerely misinf...

Myles Munroe: A great Bahamian leader departs

It was the day that was set aside to remember the fallen and those that gave their lives so that our liberties may be sustained. Many marched on Bay Street and down Parliament Street to gather at the Garden of Remembrance to pay tribute to the heroes that fought and those that paid the ultimate price on the battlefield. The mood was sombre and so were the attendees at this annual event.
As we tran...

We are not a Christian nation constitutionally

The level of ignorance about our constitution is widespread and disturbing. The ignorance is particularly alarming on the part of those who pretend to know about such matters, including certain pastors who repeatedly demonstrate a stunning ignorance of constitutional issues as well as certain inveterate writers of letters to the editor, not to mention certain uninformed radio talk show hosts.
Desp...

Where is God in gambling

Your God is too small. I'm sure you have heard this statement many times before. Is this true in the gambling debate?
Such a god is no God at all. That's a puppet pulled by strings of your own making. Christian theology must be God-directed and biblically informed. It must also stand the test of reason. Denominational dogma must never be interpreted as the voice of God. The undivided church must s...

Constitutional Referendum: Correcting an Historical Error Part 2

Unlike most Caribbean Constitutions, the nationality provisions of the Bahamian Constitution discriminate against Bahamian women, as is reflected in Articles 8 and 9 in particular. Under Article 8, a child born outside of The Bahamas after the 9th July, 1973 to a Bahamian father, inside of a marriage, shall become a Bahamian citizen automatically at the date of birth. Whereas, under Article...
