Is chikungunya gonna getcha

Dear Editor,
Minister of the Environment and Housing Kenred Dorsett says the rapid spread of the mosquito-borne illness, chikungunya, has caused his staff to launch "systematic monitoring" as well as "ramp up" its fogging program around the country.

PAHO: Lack of running water may fuel dengue

The lack of running water in some households in New Providence could be fueling the dengue fever outbreak, according to a specialist with Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).

However, Dr. Homero Silva, PAHO's environmental health engineer, said he was not certain if that was the case, as tests are still being conducted.

WHO Specialist Helping Gov't with Dengue Strategy

As the number of dengue fever cases continues to grow, government officials met yesterday with a World Health Organization (WHO) regional consultant on vector-borne disease control, Dr. Christian Frederickson, who is expected to assist the country with the outbreak. 254 Persons with Dengue fever symptoms show up at clinics

More than 250 people showed up at government clinics with symptoms of Dengue fever over the weekend, the Ministry of Health revealed in a statement yesterday.

The ministry said that 254 people with Dengue fever symptoms came into the Elizabeth Estates, Fleming Street, Flamingo Gardens and South Beach clinics as well as the Princess Margaret Hospital over the Emancipation Day weekend.
