Start building law abiding citizens from baby steps

Dear Editor,

For many years I have watched in dismay as guards stop traffic to permit schoolchildren to cross the street when incoming traffic has the green light.
What, exactly, are we teaching?
Not only is this extremely hazardous but it takes 10 feet for each 10 miles per hour to stop a vehicle, if the driver is not distracted for even a second.
