Airlines grounded by Customs over aircraft sums owed

The Customs Department is preparing to demand that numerous Bahamian airlines and charter operators hand over what amounts to millions of dollars in unpaid Customs and Stamp duties allegedly owed on previously imported aircraft, or face having their aircraft seized.

Govt Tax Policy Unfair, says Airline CEO

Government is the biggest hindrance to the growth of local aviation companies, charged President and CEO of SkyBahamas Airlines Limited Randy Butler yesterday.


Butler expressed concern about, what he described as, high taxes being levied on the industry. These taxes, he added, will inevitably drive Bahamian airlines out of business.

Florida airline, Gulfstream goes bankrupt

Florida airline Gulfstream International Group Inc (GIA.A) filed for bankruptcy on Thursday to cope with debt and rising fuel costs, but said it would not affect its 150 daily flights.

The Fort Lauderdale, Florida-based airline flies to 18 destinations in Florida and the Bahamas. From Cleveland, Ohio it flies to six cities in neighboring states.
