Stepping Stone Quilters

Sunday 27th January 2019  10:00 AM

Stepping Stone Quilters Exhibit, Showcasing The Art of Quilting

For over 32 years, the Stepping Stone Quilters has kept the unique art of Quilting alive in The Bahamas. Each year the group has a show whereby they showcase their work; traditional quilts for beds; baby quilts and mats, wall hangings, cushion covers, table runners and many more practical and useful items. The Stepping Stone Quilters has created countless beautiful items to benefit charities and organizations in The Bahamas. Many of the quilts have been used as fundraisers, but others have gone as direct donations to comfort those in need, especially after the ravages of serious hurricanes like Andrew, Joaquin, and Matthew. Once again, to support the work of the Cancer Society of The Bahamas, our 16 members created Lap Quilts, to be gifted to persons from the Family Islands staying in the Cancer Caring Centre while undergoing treatment. The project crested into an amazing wave of love, generosity and productivity which yielded 89 quilts, some of which will be displayed at this year's show. Others have already been gifted, and after this Exhibition, the remainder will be also.

At the request of The Cancer Society of The Bahamas, there will be 30 quilts on display and offered for sale. All of the money raised will be used to continue the excellent work of The Cancer Society of The Bahamas!

The Art of Raga Singing. A Divine Music Immersion Hosted by Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat Bahamas

Sunday 27th January 2019  12:00 PM

Real music is not for wealth, not for honors. It is one kind of yoga, a path for realization, and salvation to purify your mind and heart and give you longevity.”
-Ali Akbar Khan

Through the integration of breath and sound, the musical art of raga singing as a yogic practice stimulates dormant energy, invites mental clarity, and moves the heart into deep love and devotion. It is said that ragas are the essence of Indian classical music ― and that the spiritual process of raga singing brings divine healing.

Open to all levels of vocalists and music lovers, this captivating weekend offers a complete musical immersion. Students will experience what master musicians believe to be the most sophisticated form of musical expression: the art of raga singing. The days will be filled with deep listening, tuning to tones and subtle movements of note, vocal meditation, and the experiential potential within each raga for connection with the Divine.
