CUSTOMS DUTY

An educated consumer means a smart consumer. Do you know your customs duty? Below are tables containing common dutiable and duty free items.

Stamp tax..what is it? Stamp tax used to be a percentage of the duty that was calculated and added to entries for customs duty. This 7% tax was eliminated in 2009 and replaced by a flat fee of $10.00. This fee is added to all entries for customs and it applies to duty free items as well.

Bill of Lading: A bill of lading is standard, mandatory paperwork providing the carrier and driver with all pertinent information related to the shipping costs and information. This paperwork allows for proper billing to be processed by the shipping company, customs and PCL Imports. All parties involved should have a copy of the BOL (buyer, seller and carrier).
Intermodal transportation: Combination of two or more modes of moving freight.

LTL/LCL (Less than Truckload/Less than Container Load): Less than container load/truckload is just that, usually Items on a 48" x 48" pallet that do not require a full container to be shipped.

CIF Values: Regarding all freight coming into the Bahamas, the value used to determine the dutiable amount must be the CIF value, or the Cost of the item + Freight.
