Why Leslie Miller's words hurt so much

Dear Editor,
I have a friend who is trapped in a marriage in which over the years her husband has been emotionally and physically abusive. It's not as bad as it used to be, but there is still some abuse and she lives in fear as to when he might become violent.
When Leslie Miller talked about beating up his girlfriend it sent chills down the spines of many women who are victims of abuse. His word...

I would appreciate some space in your paper to share my views on the recent issue about abuse of women and an MP's unfortunate remarks.
After the offensive and ill-conceived remarks regarding violence against women that Leslie Miller recently said in the House of Assembly (how he supposedly abused his ex-girlfriend), he made an apology. In his words, "I want to apologize to all of m...

Shame on Leslie Miller and his colleagues

Dear Editor,I am stunned that two weeks after Leslie Miller, member of Parliament for Tall Pines and chairman of BEC, made disgusting and backward remarks about a former girlfriend, trivializing the issue of physical abuse of women on the floor of the House of Assembly, the leader of the government and prime minister of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas remains mum on the matter. In fact the entire...

Violence against women: Leslie Miller and the PLP's veil of silence

Approaching International Women's Day, the country witnessed a day of infamy in the House of Assembly, one of the most repugnant moments in the chamber in living memory.
Tall Pines MP Leslie Miller boasted, emphatically and unequivocally, that he had inflicted violence on, assaulted and brutalized a woman. In a 105-word horrendous analogy Miller noted, as reported in this journal: "'That's like b...

The disgraceful remarks of Leslie Miller

Dear Editor,
Please allow me the space in your newspaper to respond to the remarks made by MP for Tall Pines Leslie Miller recently in the House of Assembly and the events that followed.
We find it absolutely unacceptable and inexcusable that an MP would boldly make statements about abuse enacted against a former partner. It is further injurious to laugh about such a thing and encourage others to...
