No prosecutions in child fire deaths

The number of children who have been killed in fires this year has caused concern in many sectors of society.
So far this year, six children between the ages of nine-months and 10 years have died as a result of house fires. In all the three separate incidents, the children were reportedly left home alone.

Baby dies in house fire

A BABY died and two children managed to escape when their family home went up in flames on Saturday.

Police said the duplex in Domingo Heights, off East Street South, started before 11pm. When officers arrived they found the back of the single-storey duplex engulfed in flames.

Firefighters worked to control the blaze and then went in to search all five rooms of the home.

A nine-month-old female baby was burned beyond recognition in a house fire that destroyed a portion of an apartment complex on Saturday night.
The baby was reportedly left at home alone with her nine-year-old sister and five-year-old brother.
