Edmund Spencer Moxey launched the first Coconut Grove Festival on Emancipation Day in 1969.
It was first held on the grounds of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, then outgrew that site and moved to Jumbey Village. Edmund Moxey designed and orchestrated the festival annually in the spirit of preserving, cultivating, and promoting our heritage and culture.
