Cosmosis presents a flower essence workshop with Holly Bynoe and a guided tour of the Primeval Forest National Park. Join us on Saturday, September 14th at 10:00 at the grounds of the National Art Gallery of The Bahamas to explore the NAGB’s sculpture garden blooming plants therein which includes mahogany, sage, bay leaf, Black Poui/Jacaranda, seagrape, moringa, lemongrass, hibiscus, pineapple verbena and avocado among others.
Attendees are invited to bring their smartphones upon which they will be invited to download a ‘plant identification application’ which will be the principal guide along with Bynoe through the Sculpture Garden. Chosen for its importance as the site for the first African hospital in The Bahamas, the NAGB Sculpture Garden is a sacred space where the ancestors will be honoured and indigenous knowledge of plant medicine will be acknowledged.
We will identify and choose two blooms through a process of ethical wildcrafting which is also known as foraging and is the practice of harvesting plants from their natural, or 'wild' habitat, primarily for food or medicinal purposes. We will meditate with the plant and ask permissions for its healing properties to be set into the medicine. The process of the infusion and solarization can take anywhere from 3-6 hours.
Attendees will carpool from the NAGB to the Primeval Forest National Park where we will have a guided tour of the 7.5-acre property by a trusted guide. Remarkably undisturbed, this old-growth woodland is representative of the early evergreen tropical hardwood forests of The Bahamas. It features dramatic sinkholes – unique limestone caverns up to 50 feet long, 30 feet wide, and in some cases 30 feet deep. The most notable features are accessed by boardwalks, steps and bridges.
After the tour we will return to the NAGB and set the medicine under the guidance of Holly. Each participant will have hands on experience in understanding ratios, the Mother tincture and the energetic and healing properties of the blooms chosen along with common blooms found locally.
Attendees are asked to bring good walking shoes, hats/umbrellas and water to keep hydrated. It is also advisable to pack a light lunch and snacks as the workshop will run for 6 hours. Open to children 10+.
For those who are sensitive to alcohol, medicine will be made and set with apple cider vinegar. This will also be suitable for children or those with a sensitivity towards spirits. The medicine will be made the traditional spirit of brandy as a carrier or Stoli vodka.
$75.00 includes fee of guided tour of Primeval Forest National Park, carpooling gas fee, and all implements for the workshop inclusive of spirits, bottles, pipettes and a prepared guide on flower essences.
