Invitation to the national launch of ACE Diabetes

Wednesday, Nov 14th
New Providence Community Centre, Blake Road at 6.30pm

The general public is invited to the national launch of ACE Diabetes on World Diabetes Day on Wednesday, Nov 14th, 2012 at New Providence Community Centre, Blake Road at 6.30pm.

The ACE in ACE Diabetes stands for Awareness, Compassion and Education on the scourge called diabetes. Today, 50-60% of all Bahamian citizens will suffer from diabetes at some point in their lives. This translates into the six percent of all deaths in The Bahamas being due to some type of diabetes related condition.

Financially the epidemic is a burden as well with 80% of the total drug costs for the National Prescription Drug Plan being spent on treatment for diabetes and hypertension. Individuals with diabetes have two to four times the chance of having a stroke in comparison to individuals without diabetes. Also, diabetes is the leading cause of blindness in individuals aged 20-74 in The Bahamas.

ACE Diabetes was born for the sole purpose of making Bahamians aware of the disease and its symptoms, offering compassion to those who have to live daily with a chronic disease and comprehensive education on how to live happily and healthily for many years with the disease.

Everyone who is a diabetic or who has loved ones who are diabetic are invited and encouraged to attend.
