The 2012 Invitational at The Central Bank of The Bahamas Art Gallery is an investigation and celebration of the art currently being produced in The Bahamas. There is no theme or descriptive title to the exhibition with the only premise for the show being that the invited artists submit work that directly dealt with their own individual studio concerns. The ten artists that are participating in the exhibition cover a full spectrum of professionals from established artists like Antonius Roberts, Malcolm Rae and Kendal Hanna, to mid-career artists such as Michael Edwards, Dylan Rapillard, Margot Bethel and Toby Lunn. The show also includes work from young artists that are just beginning their creative careers such as Giovanna Swaby, Kachelle Knowles and Steven Schmid.

Curator of The Central Bank of The Bahamas Art Gallery, Heino Schmid, expresses, "It is always exciting to hang group exhibitions and to navigate the physical and conceptual landscapes of different artists in one space. As an artist, I have always been fascinated with any opportunity to address another artist?s process and highlight those investigations publicly for further dialogue."

This exhibition combines both elements where without a theme, title or medium criteria artists were encourage to present work that deals with their own independent studio investigations. With July being the month of the country?s 39th Independence, these independent investigations become especially relevant and offer a small glimpse of the visual art being produced in the country today.

The public opening for the 2012 Invitational at The Central Bank of The Bahamas Art Gallery, Market Street is Thursday July 12, from 6 to 9pm and the exhibition will remain open to the public until July 31, from 10am to 4pm.

The Central Bank of The Bahamas Art Gallery on Market Street announces the opening of its 2012 Artist Invitational Exhibition featuring new work by 10 Bahamian artists whose work in this exhibition explores each artist's individual concerns which inspire the work they do.

Exhibition runs July 4-31, 2012.
