Habitat - An Exhibition of Ceramic Work
By Artists Keva Fawkes and Alistair Stevenson

Opens Thursday, February 16, 2012 ? 6pm

Popopstudios: International Centre for the Visual Arts presents "Habitat", an exhibition of ceramic artwork by Junior Resident Artists of 2011, Keva Fawkes and Alistair Stevenson.

The word "Habitat" was chosen as the title of this exhibition to bring about awareness of the varying environments we as human beings ? be they organic or inorganic ? live in and experience everday. "Habitat" provides to society the opinions and ideas of two emerging visual artists expressing how they see these environments on both an intrapersonal and interpersonal level.

Fawkes' approach to "Habitat" addresses the feeling of loneliness one may experience. Drawing on first-hand experience, her pieces discuss the hardships and comforts she would have experienced. She expresses this by the use of functional ceramic items which are adorned with objects that are representative of concepts about what "home" means for somebody.

Stevenson approached "Habitat" with a view to invite persons to remove themself from the refined environment of a house and make a bold step into nature. With this in mind, a therapeutic, self-calming experience away from the business of life in general can be enjoyed. He expresses this idea through ceramic sculptures representative of nature in semi-abstract forms which engulf and recreate commonly refined objects like street lamps, teapots, storage jars and the like.
