The Bahamas Football Association (BFA) was founded in 1967 and became affiliated with FIFA (F?d?ration Internationale de Football Association) in 1968. FIFA is comprised of six confederations.

CONCACAF,(the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Football Association of which BFA is part of), AFC in Asia, CAF in Africa, CONMEBOL in South America, UEFA in Europe and OFC in the territory of Oceania. Affiliation with CONCACAF came in 1981, and this affiliation has led to the Bahamas participating in competitions for men, women and youth.

many of these competitions have served as qualifying events for FIFA tournaments and the Bahamas has competed in the region at senior men and women, U-23 men (Olympic Qualifiers), U-20 and U-17 boys, as well as U-20 (formerly U-19) girls. One of Bahamian football's proudest moments came in May 2000, when the Bahamas played host to the CONCACAF Congress at the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island. Representatives from all of the countries in the region, as well as from FIFA and the other confederations all attended this congress, which also played hosts to the countries bidding to host the FIFA World CUp 2006.
