Stride for Life Fun Walk

Stride for Life Fun Walk

Saturday 1st October 2011  6:00 AM

October is breast cancer awareness month and the Cancer Society of The Bahamas will be raising awareness about breast cancer, an insidious disease that has affected hundreds and hundreds of Bahamian women and men over the last decade.

One of the upcoming events the Cancer Society is hosting is the 'Stride for Life Fun Walk,' an aerobic and running programme designed to promote healthier lifestyles and raise cancer awareness. It is an event suited for the entire family's participation.

The annual walk serves not only as a major plank in the Cancer Society of the Bahamas' (CSOB) fundraising arsenal, but also as a means of raising public awareness about cancer in general - and breast cancer in particular - as well as mobilising public support for the ongoing work of the CSOB.

The organisations benefitting from this event:
? The Cancer Society of The Bahamas
? Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation
? Sister Sister Breast Cancer Support Group
? Bahamas Breast Cancer Initiative

There will be a wide range of attractive prizes and trophies that will be available for eligible participants to win on walk day. Among these are airline tickets from American Airlines, trips on Bahamas Fast Ferries, gift baskets from John Bull and the Perfume Shop, gift certificates from Fashion Hall and Dolphin Encounters, and dinners for two at Luciano's of Chicago and the Sheraton Resort.

On the day of the walk, a number of tents will be erected on the grounds of the CSOB to house various vendors who will be displaying their wares and offering free samples to participants and visitors. A miniature breakfast cafe will be established on the western balcony of the CSOB's headquarters, where chicken and pigs' feet souse and conch stew will be on sale.

Registration forms for all groups and categories are available at the Society's headquarters on East Terrace, Centreville or can be downloaded from the Cancer Society's website below. For more information, feel free to call 323-4441 or 323-4482.
