POWER CUT HITS PRISON MAXIMUM SECURITY WING

A DAMAGED power cable and generator which left the maximum security wing of Her Majesty's Prison in darkness for 17 hours did not compromise security, Prison Superintendent Dr Elliston Rahming insisted last night.

Dr Rahming said a cable feeding power to the prison was struck by lightning on Monday night, followed by a generator that provided power until about 1am on Tuesday then breaking down.
