Making Art Beyond the Studio & Classroom

Beyond the Studio & Classroom is a fun and active workshop that will take participants on journey of adventure and discovery over the course of three Saturdays. Participants will engage in collecting items from beaches and other areas, journaling and ordering them and then ultimately creating art pieces called Curiosity Cabinets.

Nelson Cooper Basketball Classic

The Hope Centre and Youth Against Violence hold the 15th Annual Nelson Cooper “Peace on Da Streets” Basketball Classic.

It consists of five divisions including a team from California and (for the 1st time) a celebrity division featuring radio personalities and entertainers in honour of the late Anthony “Fatback” Marshall for his work with local youth.

July 22 - 24 games start at 6 pm and on Jul 25 at 9 am. Also on July 25 a family night is held at 5 pm with members of parliament competing against local pastors among other contests. All events held at the Sir Kendall Isaacs Gym.

Public Service Essay Competition

The Public Service Department holds an essay competition as part of the Tenth Annual Public Service Week, open to junior and seniors in high school.

Students should write a 250 - 300 words (juniors) and 450 - 500 (seniors) essay on “The Public Service - Striving for Excellence in Customer Service.” Deadline is July 24.

Winner announced at the 10th Annual Public Service Week Awards Ceremony, Oct 10. First prize a Dell Desktop 2400 computer system.

Urban Nassau is a desperate attempt to remove cash money from your pockets into ours through art, music, drinking, and overall social excess. This fundraising event consists of two parts, the cocktail and the after party.

Urban Nassau's early cocktail is perfect for persons exhausted from a week of stress, stress and more stress who are looking for a selection of delicious drinks in a comfortable, relaxing and artistic atmosphere.

However when darkness falls prepare yourself for a fun filled night of music and drinks complete with the pretentiousness of the art beat life.

For this hip and happenin' event six artists will be collaborating on an interior site-specific, mural-esk painting as the GUTS! of the Hub. The artists include Anya Antonovych Metcalf, John Cox, Jason Bennett, Allan Wallace, Natasha Turnquest and XanXi Bethel.

Cocktail runs from 5pm - 8pm and has no admission fee.

The party runs from 8pm - until with an admission fee BEGINNING AT 7PM of $10 members, $15 non-members and free if you purchase a minimum of an individual membership ($35).
