Abilities Unlimited was started in 1974 by the then council for the handicapped. it gives employment to adults with various special needs including the developmentally delayed, those with speech and hearing impairment, stroke victims and persons with head injuries and/or special problems such as recovering addicts. The only special group which is not catered to is the visually impaired.
There are two departments functioning at Abilities Unlimited: The furniture manufacture and repair, and the ceramic manufacture and repair. There is a wide range of ceramic items which can be made to order, and any wooden furniture can be repaired and painted or varnished. Plastic strapping for patio furniture and caning on chairs can also be replaced.

In addition, Abilities Unlimited benefits from the re-sale of donated items, such furniture, appliances and clothing.
