Description
Welcome To The Grand Bahama Down Syndrome Society
The Grand Bahama Down Syndrome Society (GBDSS) was formed in May 2012 with the organization of the first Buddy Walk Grand Bahama. It is an organization of volunteers dedicated to increasing the awareness of DS on the island. Incorporated in January 2013 as a Bahamian non-profit organization, our purpose is threefold:
1) To raise AWARENESS of Down Syndrome (DS) within the Grand Bahama community
2) To promote the INCLUSION of those living with DS in all facets of life within Grand Bahama
3) To celebrate the ACCOMPLISHMENTS of those living with DS throughout the Grand Bahama community
It is our hope that that we can inspire the entire community of Grand Bahama, from the smallest child to our most elderly citizen, to be proactive in their support of people living with DS; that we can eliminate any stigma that surrounds those living with special needs and finally, that we are an advocate for the rights of these citizens , that the resources needed to achieve these goals are in place and accessible to all who are in need.
