Description

The AIDS Foundation of The Bahamas was established in 1992 by the Zonta Club of Nassau. The Zonta Club of Nassau was approached by Dr Perry Gomez, Director of the national AIDS Programme with a view to establishing an NGO (Non-Government Organization) to assist in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

The mission of The Foundation is to support the fight against HIV/AIDS in the community. Our vision is to provide education and awareness, to assist in the prevention, treatment and cure and to provide support for people living with HIV/AIDS. It is a non-profit, non-government organization dedicated to the fight against HIV/AIDS.wall plaque

In 1993 Imperial Life Financial became our major partner and pledged to host an annual fund raiser (Red Ribbon Ball) for the Foundation. The first Red Ribbon Ball was held in 1994. Over the years this event has become the major fund raiser for the Foundation.

In 1997 Imperial Life donated property at 23 Delancey Street for the offices of the Foundation. There were three buildings on the site. Two of the buildings were renovated with funds raised by the Red Ribbon Ball. One building houses our offices, office space for the Samaritan Ministries and BNN+ (Bahamas National Network for Positive Living), a food and clothing bank and a small lounge for counseling. The other building houses a conference/meeting room where support groups meet and a one bedroom apartment.
