Description

BREEF was founded in 1993 by Sir Nicholas Nuttall to address growing concerns on the state of The Bahamasí marine environments.

Almost single handedly, Sir Nicholas turned the organization into a leader in educating Bahamianís about the marine resources. As the organization began to take a more active role as watchdogs, advocates for political change, and public educators, it transitioned from being a voluntary entity to a more formalized non-government organization.

In 2002, B.R.E.E.F. hired its first Executive Director, and established its first Board of Directors, with Sir Nicholas in the role of Chairman of the Board.

CONSERVATION OBJECTIVES:
-To support the implementation of a network of Marine Reserves.
-To protect Fish Spawning Aggregations.
-To ensure a continued supply of fish and conch for Bahamians.

BREEF acts:
-Marine Conservation Teacher Training Workshops
-Fisheries Workshops
-Public Education
-School Programmes
-Fisheries reports for Sustainable Management
-Collaboration with other Bahamain Conservation Organizations

BREEF is funded entirely by your donations and foundation grants. We thank you for your continued support.
