This unique property on Nassau's historic Eastern Road comprises a British colonial style main house (7,000 sq ft) and Solomon's Lighthouse, which dates back to the early 1950s, and is presented facing the ocean over the whole length of two lots (Winton 47 & 48). It benefits from an extraordinary view of the ocean, all day sunlight and all-year-round breeze from the East.
The main house is on two levels with tall, beamed ceilings and comprises six large bedrooms, four bathrooms, two toilets, a main drawing room with a two-storey bay window facing the ocean and a separate eating area, a generous study/home office, comfortable TV room/den, large kitchen with eating area, and separate staff quarters. The whole property, inside and out, has been lovingly restored to a very high standard over the last five years and all interior rooms have been recently repainted. The house has an external porch around the perimeter which provides ample space to eat, read and relax in the shade on both floors. The lighthouse, which would make an excellent home-office or guest house, is aesthetically joined to the main house by a beautiful stone-clad bridge. It has five floors including a completely new eagle's nest at the very top with glass walls and a spectacular view in all directions, an original kitchen, two bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, a basement room for storage and an internal electric lift. The main house is distinguished by its traditional wooden porch, copper gutters and drain pipes throughout and a traditional wooden shingle roof.
The master plan for the amalgamation of the two seafront lots into a single unique eight-bedroom property with its landmark Bahamian lighthouse, was conceived by the distinguished British classical architect, Alireza Sagharchi, a longtime favorite of H.R.H. The Prince of Wales. It includes a 90ft horizon pool, natural stone-clad sea wall, hundreds of square feet of Italian travertine tiled terrace, a wooden deck with direct access to the ocean, and a terraced planted garden that descends gradually under the bridge, towards the sea.
Freshly planted palms and a bougainvillea covered external wall with two double entry and exit gates offer security as well as shaded parking for up to five vehicles. The entire property is protected by an alarm system with more than 70 sensors which is monitored 24/7/365. A high powered generator that supplies electricity to all outlets in both buildings, ample supply of propane and pumped connection to City water ensure that the property is never cut off from the essential utilities, whatever the weather.

John Christie was born on November 10, 1963. He attended St. Andrew's School in Nassau and later The Millfield School in Somerset, England, where he received his "O" and "A" Level exams. In 1987 he graduated with a B. A. in Music and Social Science from Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts. After graduation, John spent six years living in Northampton and Boston, running a small moving business and pursuing a career in music where he was the lead for a successful band, "The Floating Boats", that performed throughout the northeastern United States.
In 1993 he returned to The Bahamas to join H. G. Christie Ltd., where his father, Peter, is President. The first task that John set himself was to update all technology being used by the firm. An early believer in the power of the Internet, he then spearheaded the creation of a website for the company and, in 1995, H. G. Christie Ltd. became the first local real estate firm to go online. For many years, this site was the only one of its kind to be interactive, allowing users to search through the company's extensive portfolio of properties.
Today, www.hgchristie.com -- which has more than 2,400 listings and is updated daily -- has become a crucial component of the firm's business. In 2003, the site swept the First Annual Bahamas Web Awards, taking home the coveted Best of The Bahamas Award, the Best Programmer Award, and the Judges top prize in the Non-Tourism category.
John is currently overseeing HGChristie's continuing expansion in the Out Islands of The Bahamas, which his great uncle -- the founder of the company, Sir Harold George Christie, K.T., C.B.E. -- did so much to promote during his lifetime. John is a fully licensed real estate broker and has served as Director of the Bahamas Real Estate Association (BREA), where he continues to take professional courses. A skilled photographer, John shoots many of the pictures for HGChristie's website and additional promotional materials. His other hobbies include sailing, hiking and snow skiing. John lives in Nassau and has two sons, Dylan and Kai.
