Does Royalty tickle your fancy? The story goes that while the Duke & Duchess of Windsor enjoyed travelling the Bahamas and meeting the gentle folk who were then subjects of the British Royal thrown. On one such voyage to visit the industrious friendly people of Abaco the Duke's vessel encountered troubles and had to duck into Cherokee Sound while repairs had to be made. While the former King of England, Edward, and his beloved wife Wallace Simpson spent a few days in Cherokee Sound waiting on parts to arrive from Nassau (which message was sent by the recently installed wireless system), they found respite in this cottage in the centre of the town. The folks of Cherokee rarely saw visitors at all and this chance occasion to play host to the former King was cause for the town celebration. Back then there were no roads connecting the settlement to the rest of Abaco it was quiet little fishing world between Marsh Harbour and New Providence.
Now the historic 100 year old Mabel's Cottage has been lovingly restored by the fine Cherokee craftsmen as well as being modernized with all new electrical and plumbing. The 3 bedroom home would be a fantastic vacation rental adding to the character of the quaint settlement of Cherokee Sound. The township watches over a beautiful natural estuary of water that connects Yellow Wood Creek with the Atlantic Ocean.
Cherokee has a friendly 'mom & pop' grocery store, a fuel station/dock, community boat ramp and dock and most importantly it is proud of the world famous longest 'long dock' in the Bahamas. The sand banks and creeks in the area are home to some of the most fantastic and surreal fly fishing and paddling grounds in the world, all on the doorstep of the Atlantic Ocean and minutes from Florida by air.

Dwayne was born in Eastbourne on the southern coast of England, but he grew up in Nassau from the age of two. After graduating from high school in Nassau at St. Andrews School in 1995, he majored in the physical sciences, attending Goddard College in Vermont and graduating from Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts in 2001 with his Bachelor of Arts degree. The title of his college thesis, "A Mechanical Analysis of a Movement in Rock Climbing" alludes to his appreciation for the outdoors and the environment. After spending a few years in the graphic arts profession, Dwayne joined the family business in 2003 at the age of 25. With a focus in the appraisal discipline, and also providing professional services in sales, he continues the tradition started by his great grand-uncle and the founder of the company, Sir Harold George Christie, K.T., C.B.E., in 1922. Dwayne's major interest in life involves sails ranging from little remote control sailboats up to PHRF "Big boat" racing. He has represented the Bahamas on the international level in the Snipe class and is still an avid sailor, a trait he inherited from his grandfather, Peter Christie. Other pursuits include cycling (on and off-road), rock climbing, carpentry, photography, fishing and traveling. His travels within the Bahamas include the Abaco mainland and cays, Andros, Eleuthera, Harbour Island, Spanish Wells, Cat Island, Inagua, San Salvador, Great Exuma and much of the Exuma Cays chain, North and South Bimini, and Rum Cay. Dwayne maintains that the most unique place he has visited in the Bahamas is Conception Island, one of our unknown national marine parks. Dwayne lives in Marsh Harbour and is a real estate professional serving all of the Abacos. Visit Dwayne's Abaco Real Estate blog at http://MyAbacoBlog.com
