PCA 2014 Tops 1,000 Players, Hits $10M Guarantee

Thu, Jan 9th 2014, 06:01 PM

Despite horrendous weather across the States which has hampered hundreds of players' efforts to reach the Bahamas, this year's PCA has not only beaten last year's field, but has topped the 1,000 mark and hit the $10 million guarantee.

With 710 players for Day 1b today and 295 yesterday, the current field is 1,005 but players have until start of play tomorrow to buy in. 448 players got through Day 1b today which, combined with the 184 Day 1a survivors, means at least 632 players will be in seats for Day 2. The current chip leader is American WSOP bracelet winner Shankar Pillai who finished Day 1b with 173,900, ahead of yesterday's chip leader, PokerStars qualifier Dylan Hortin. Among the other survivors today were Team PokerStars Pros Marcel Luske, Dario Minieri, Vanessa Selbst, Angel Guillen, Andre Akkari, Alex Kravchenko, Chris Moneymaker, Leo Margets, Jonathan Duhamel, Joe Cada, Marcin Horecki, Daniel Negreanu, Christophe De Meulder, Jason Mercier, Christian de Leon plus Team Online's Marc-Andre Ladouceur.

David Carrion, PCA & Latam Director of Live Operations, said: "Because of the weather, we were a litte bit concerned about the numbers - not so much because of the guarantee, but because we want to give players a fantastic event. So we are thrilled we have topped 1,000 players and I know there are still players arriving after three days of trying to get here."
