Bimini resort expects 'fast track' resolution of cruise ban

Resorts World Bimini yesterday said its request for the lifting of a U.S. ban on its night cruises, which its own court filings suggest could threaten the viability of its overall operations on Bimini, is "on a 'fast track' for resolution" in the U.S. court system.
Confirming that there is currently a restriction placed on the company's ability to operate its night cruise product using its Bimini superfast ferry, Director of Public Affairs for Resorts World Bimini Michele Malcolm said the ban does not affect the daytime cruise operation that delivers passengers to the company's Bimini resort on a regular basis.
"The restriction went into effect on November 28. The restriction is a reversal on the part of CBP (U.S. Customs and Border Protection), which had previously granted us permission to operate the night cruises with our current crew.
"The pending motion for preliminary injunction is intended to prevent the restriction from remaining in effect while the court reviews the merits.
"The restriction has a material impact on the evening cruise experience and ability to offer guests the full complement of our product line," said Malcolm in an e-mailed statement sent to Guardian Business.
