Lequient 'Pastor Q' Bethel is making ready to inform, challenge and teach people how to be revivalists - and to show them that the revival culture should be a normal thing in their lives as he and his team launch MJF (Make Jesus Famous) magazine. Through the publication they hope to provide tools Christians can use to bring change in their spheres of influence.
MJF magazine will be published six times per year. It will be launched on Friday, November 8 at 7:30 p.m. at Epic Church located in the Summer Winds Plaza on the Tonique Williams-Darling Highway.
Each issue of the magazine will contain a feature story in the "MJF Spotlight" during which the focus will be placed on a believer who is making an impact on his sphere of influence. Bahamas Faith Ministries Senior Pastor Dr. Myles Munroe graces the cover of the first issue with gospel singer Jonathan Farrington in the spotlight.
It will also offer a regular column titled "By The Spirit", where readers can get the teaching of the kingdom, and which, for the most part, will be written by ministers. "Inspired" will be another staple column, which will feature Christian spoken word and poetry. Rodeana Sands will answer practical questions about life in "Ask Deanie".
"MJF [magazine] is really to inform, challenge and teach people about how to become revivalists and let this culture be a normal thing in my life," said Bethel. "We have a lot of ministers and believers from different spheres of life share their experiences, give some teachings and it's really just geared towards opening our eyes, to hunger after God and to realize that we are called to make an impact wherever we are at."
He added: "MJF focuses on the fact that one of the things we teach is that as believers there is no higher calling. The same Holy Spirit that's in the pastor is the same Holy Spirit that's in the Christian; so wherever you are, it is your mission field and harvest field. The majority of ministry should happen outside of the pulpit. You should be able to walk in the culture of the presence of the Lord, and show the love of Jesus, so much so that wherever you're at, you can give someone a word."
According to Bethel, each issue following the launch issue will be theme-based with the second issue focused on "Healing", and the third issue centered around "Young Movers and Shakers".
"It's not something that's just going to be a good read or just entertaining; it's something that will provoke and challenge people to desire more of God and I think that is what's needed," he said. "In The Bahamas, we have a very complacent Christianity or very religious Christianity, and what this does is provoke you into a naturally supernatural life, and the naturally supernatural life gives birth to hunger," said Bethel.
The co-pastor at the four-year-old church, with his wife Rosemary Bethel, said bringing MJF to the public was a team effort along with his "Jesus Famous" team of Rodeana Sands and Shacarra Scavella.
Bethel said the magazine publication was a project he had on his heart since 2007 after returning home in 2005. After much talk, he said it's finally reality.
In his "Message From The Editor" in the first issue, Bethel encourages people to make Jesus famous and he shows them how to do it.
"We make him famous by how we exemplify and model his love to one another. We make him famous by modeling a supernatural lifestyle that heals the sick, causes blind eyes to see and raises the dead. The reality is that a life of a believer should be naturally supernatural. Everything Jesus did when he walked the earth we should be doing as well," he said.
The 32-year-old pastor said through the magazine's voice, he wants people to come to the realization that revival is not a three-day service, but a culture where people are healed and the power of God brings people to a lifestyle of loving God. He also said that he wants people to realize that a revival is not only loving God while in church, but that it is a culture that permeates the land.
The magazine will be priced at $3.99 and available the day after the launch at Epic Church and at Chapter One Book Store, and 100% Bible, Books and Gift Shop.
