Halloween (a word shortened from All Hallows' Evening) is fast approaching. While it may not be an official holiday in The Bahamas, many Bahamians still take the opportunity to enjoy the festivities that come with the occasion to trick-or-treat, visit haunted houses and attending costume parties -- some people even take the time out to carve a pumpkin or two and decorate their house.
But for those people who don't have time to plan their own spooky day of fun, a number of events are happening around town in which they can participate.
The Lost Souls of Atlantis: The Halloween Cave of Horrors
Those people looking for a truly terrifying experience on the night of All Hallows' Eve, on Thursday, October 31, should flock to Atlantis where they will host the ultimate haunted family experience of haunted houses. It's an event they've dubbed "The Lost Souls of Atlantis: The Halloween Cave of Horrors".
The house that will be open from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. is being described as the ultimate Halloween experience for anyone looking to be scared out of their wits.
The keeper of the cave begins the tour with the scary, true story of those persons who came to find the lost city and never left the cave. She then turns visitors over to a zombie tour guide who walks the participants through the cave at their own risk. There is only one way in and one way out of the 15-minute "scare-perience".
Guests can expect fog, intense lighting and things that go bump in the night. So if they have any preexisting conditions including, but not limited to pregnancy, epilepsy, panic attacks or asthma, they are strongly warned against participating.
At the end of the haunted cave, guests can purchase food and drink as they enjoy the ghoulishly good party hosted by the resort's guest activities at Cave Grill in the Beach Towner at which fun prizes will be given out.
The experience is open to locals, guests and families as long as children are over age 6. All children under age 12 have to be accompanied by an adult, and parents are warned that the experience is intended to be terrifying. The cost is $10.
Spooky fun for the little ones To ensure that the little ones can enjoy the fun that is Halloween, Atlantis Kids Adventures will also host their version of "Halloween Spooktacular", which encompasses safe, spooky fun for children ages three to 12, on Saturday, October 26 from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Admission is $60 per child and includes a pizza dinner, Halloween games, crafts and lots of tricks and treats. Halloween Costume Competition at Party Land Whether you enjoy being scared witless or not, kicking off all of the Halloween festivities will be Party Land, which will host a costume competition for the young and those people who are young at heart, on Saturday, October 26 from 12 noon to 6 p.m. at their Harbour Bay Shopping Plaza location.
As their slogan is that they are the place where the fun begins, they are definitely kicking off the festivities leading up to Halloween with their competition. The costume competition will be held between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., and from the eight-month-old baby up to the 80-year-old grandma are free to participate.
Judging will be done on the prettiest, scariest and most original costume with prizes to be won from a $75 John Bull gift card, $50 Party Land gift certificate to a $25 Starbucks gift booklet.
Blue Lagoon Island's Spooktacular
Blue Lagoon Island joins in on the Halloween festivities, albeit, a little bit after the bewitching night has passed with their "Halloween Spooktacular" on Saturday, November 2 from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. There will be a haunted house, games, food, costume and dance contest and prizes. Adults are $28 and children 12 and under $20. The price includes the round trip boat ride, lunch, treats, candy and scavenger hunt. Boarding times at the Paradise Island Ferry Terminal are 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. with the final return at 5:30 p.m. All children under the age of 18 have to be accompanied to the event by an adult that has paid for a ticket.
Hells Down Bottoms Up at Via
Via Restaurant & Bar's Halloween Party, entitled "Hells Down Bottoms Up", will also be staged after the bewitching night known as Halloween has come and gone as well, on Friday, November 1 at their Parliament Street and Woodes Rodgers Wharf location. With a $50 bar tap up for grabs for the sexiest costume and a $50 bar tab for the scariest costume (winnings to be used after November 1), it's scaring up to be a spectacular evening. They will also be offering their 666 drink specials with Vampire blood vodka martinis at $6, Hell on Fire for $6 and Devil in a red dress for $6.
