A town planning and architecture firm involved in the Schooner Bay development in South Abaco has been honored in Palm Beach with an Addison Mizner Medal for their excellence in urbanism through their works in classical and traditional architecture.

This award bestowed on the company - Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company - by the Florida chapter of the Institute of Classical Architecture and Art (ICAA), is "one of the most prestigious awards in architecture that can be earned," said a release from Schooner Bay Village.

In naming Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company as the recipient the ICAA said it was "for its dedication to principles of urbanism, enlightened expertise, the vision applied to Schooner Bay over the past seven years and in the achievement of excellence in classical and traditional design in architecture."

Schooner Bay is the creation of and has been developed by community builder and long-time Bahamian resident Orjan Lindroth, president of Lindroth Development Company Ltd. Lindroth was the recipient of the 2012 Mizner Patron award. The Addison Mizner Medal recognizes excellence in the creation of 21st-century classical and traditional architecture and related fields.
