In the words of John Heywood, "Many hands make light work".
FREEPORT, Grand Bahama -- It is the responsibility of all of us to keep our environment clean, as residents of the third rock from the sun. In addition, it is our responsibility to pass this spirit of accountability for our planet on to the next generation.
The Earth is not disposable as many of the things in our lives today. Unfortunately, not many of the things we throw away are probably disposed of or recycled.
Much of the trash on our streets and in our neighborhoods ends up in our waterways, beginning a long, slow march to the ocean. And this trash, slowly degrading our ocean, impacts the food we eat and the water we drink.
This important life lesson is being embraced at Mary, Star of the Sea Catholic School as many of the students are doing their part to keep our coastline clean.
Sixth graders, as well as members of the school's civic groups, (Guides and Scouts), along with their teachers and parents have hit the ground running by being a part of the Ocean Conservancy's International Coastal Cleanup. For more than a quarter of a century, volunteers with Ocean Conservancy's International Coastal Cleanup have picked up everything imaginable along the world's shorelines: cigarette butts, food wrappers, plastic bottles and even the proverbial kitchen sink.
