Police are looking for the people responsible for stealing a safe from a customs office in Walker's Cay, Abaco.

Police said the safe contained an undetermined amount of cash.

The incident happened sometime between 5 p.m. on Sunday and 11 a.m. on Monday, police said.

Police said the culprit or culprits gained entry into the office by removing the air conditioning unit from a window on the western side of the building and crawling through.

Comptroller of Customs Charles Turner said it would have taken at least four people to move the safe. Turner said he was unsure of the amount contained in the safe, but was sure it was not as much as $100,000.

"It happened after hours," Turner said.

"The officers' scheduled time of work is from 8 a.m. to 5p.m. When they came back on Monday morning they discovered that the safe was gone."

Turner said a customs office in Spanish Cay, Abaco, was also robbed about three months ago.

When asked if a safe was stolen in that incident, he said no.

Anyone with information that can assist police in locating the suspects in these matters is asked to contact them at 350-3107/8, 919 or 911.
