NASSAU, Bahamas -- A company that plans to revolutionize the way businesses, residents and visitors in the region receive everything from news to entertainment and information today took another step toward its formal launch, naming a prestigious board of directors and the former Governor-General of The Bahamas as its chairman.

Sir Orville Turnquest, GCMG, QC, has been named chairman of IP Solutions International, Ltd., the firm that is believed to be the first in The Bahamas and the region equipped to provide a complete bundling of IPTV, communications and entertainment services via an Internet protocol platform.

Although reports of its plans and the direction in which it was headed had surfaced over recent months, IP Solutions had remained quiet pending the passage of the Communications Act 2009, broadening competition in the telecom and entertainment sector. That legislation passed last week and IPSI released directors? names almost immediately.

Those directors include Brian Quinn, Immediate Past Director-General, International Institute of Communications, London and former Chief Executive of what is now Reuters TV; Virginia Damianos, Vice President, Damianos Sotheby?s International Realty and a director of the Bahamas Real Estate Association; Fritz Stubbs, President, Orange Creek Development Co.; Owen S-M Bethel, President and Managing Director, the Montaque Group, director, RBC FINCO, director, Doctors Hospital and Honorary Chairman, 2009 Miss Universe Pageant; Edison Sumner, Director and COO, Montaque Group, Vice Chairman of the Bahamas Venture Capital Fund, and Gary Hutchens, who will serve as Vice President and COO of IPSI.

According to Sir Orville Turnquest, IP Solutions? services will enable business to operate more smoothly and increase public sector cost-effectiveness.

?The opportunities for real-time communications delivery over the Internet are almost endless and the advantages so tremendous that they will forever change how we do business,? said the Chairman. ?IP Solutions? innovation will range from a simple phone call to a neighbour to the ability to participate in court proceedings from a remote location, potentially eliminating the need for persons held on remand to be bussed through traffic on busy streets to court, reducing risk, heightening safety and conserving valuable human resources.?

Sumner, who, as President and CEO of IPSI has played an integral role in the company?s two-year preparation for launch, echoed Sir Orville?s projections about practical applications of innovative services.

?We are extremely excited about the prospects of being first out of the gate as the world of how television news, telephone calls, movies, video and gaming are brought to you changes in The Bahamas,? he said. ?The country is on the brink of nothing short of a revolution in communications and we are proud to be leading that revolution.?

Sumner hinted at two pending significant IPSI contracts, one with a large resort development and the other with a major entertainment entity.

The curtain is expected to be lifted on the services with a demonstration at a prospective investors? meeting September 17. That meeting is by invitation only.
