The Bahamas department of meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning from 9:45 am edt until 12:00 noon edt for Friday 24th May, 2013.

A severe thunderstorm warning is now in effect for Western Grand Bahama, Walker’s Cay in the Abaco’s as well as their adjacent waters or cays.

At 9:45 am edt radar and satellite data indicated a line of thunderstorms moving northeastwards across the aforementioned area.

Some of these thunderstorms will be severe at times causing strong gusty winds, dangerous lightning, heavy downpours, flooding and possible waterspout or tornadic activity.

Boaters in the warning areas should seek safe harbour and residents in the warnings areas should stay indoors and away from windows when conditions worsen. Residents should also protect themselves in flood prone areas.
