Funeral Service For Eddie Darville

Mon, Jan 28th 2013, 01:16 PM

Funeral services will be held for Eddison Emmanuel Darville, 71, who died suddenly at his Eastern Road home on Thursday afternoon, at 10am Wednesday at St Anne's Anglican Church, Fox Hill. Interment will follow in St Anne's Cemetery.

Eddie Darville was born in Mangrove Bush, Long Island, to Gilmore and Bessie Darville, but moved to Fox Hill, Nassau, with his family at the age of nine. At a young age, he would take his younger brothers and sisters to the beaches to collect shells, string them and sell them to straw vendors.

After the passing of his parents, Eddie continued with the upbringing of his siblings, and took great pride in making sure everyone was on the right track. Mr Darville went to Sandilands School and then Eastern Senior High School. When he finished school, he worked at General Hardware then Maura Lumber before starting to work for himself. He met Gladys in 1966 and they married in 1972. They spent 40 happy years together raising their son, Kevin.

He taught Kevin about sailing and fishing and his most memorable trip was to Long Island where Kevin was introduced to life on the island as his father lived it. Mr Darville spent most of his “retirement” years helping others. Sailing was his favourite pastime and he probably gave his opinions to every boat builder in the Bahamas at one time or another. Relatives and friends may pay their last respects at Kemp’s Funeral Home at 22 Palmdale Avenue tomorrow, from noon to 6pm. There will be no viewing at the church.
