CUSTOM COMPUTER’S A’S FOR EXCELLENCE WINNERS RECEIVE BRAND NEW COMPUTERS FROM CUSTOM COMPUTERS & THE MINISTER OF EDUCATION

Minister of Education, the Hon. Desmond Bannister, presented this year’s winners of Custom Computer’s A’s for Excellence Campaign with brand new HP laptop computers on Saturday, September 18 during an awards presentation at the Custom Computers “Know How Store” on Cable Beach. Outstanding students Kamal Hudson of St. Thomas More Primary School and Karinya Johnson of Prince Williams High School were each presented with their new computers.

Hudson and Johnson were among hundreds of students that entered the Third Annual A’s For Excellence Campaign, which allowed both primary and high school students throughout the country an opportunity to win a new computer for every ‘A’ Grade they received on their final end of term report card.

Mrs. Pia Farmer, co-owner and marketing director said the company is very proud to bring to a close the Third Annual A’s For Excellence Campaign. “Our children once again surprised us by entering in huge numbers. We had around 500 students entering with almost 2,500 A’s...”

While referring to a recent speech by United States President Barack Obama, Mrs. Farmer said “It isn’t always the smartest children who do well and excel, it’s the children who work the hardest, and here we have a set of students who represent so many of our children who do well in school.” She pointed out that the students’ success would not be possible without the support of parents, guardians, families, communities and teachers. She continued, “So we celebrate good news today...”

While commending the company for its efforts, Minister Bannister said, “Let me take this opportunity to congratulate Custom Computers for having the wisdom in rewarding young people for academic excellence. You have seen fit to help out in education in a meaningful way...”

Minister Bannister also commended the students for their hard work and encouraged them to continue their efforts. The Education Minister also called on more corporate entities in the community to support young people in their academic pursuits.

In addition, Oakes Field Primary School was also presented with a new iMac Computer System for having the most entries from students who had received A’s on their report cards. Oakes Fields Primary School’s head mistress, Ms. Beryl Gray and Ms. Valderine Kemp, a grade six teacher, represented the school at the awards presentation.

Minister Bannister said Oakes Field Primary is one of those outstanding schools that every year exemplifies excellence in academics and is always at the top.

Mrs. Farmer also announced that the company will further reward the students at Oakes Field Primary by sponsoring a visit by Bahamian storyteller Derek Burrows of Ringplay Production’s Shakespeare in Paradise to a special visit to the school during the Festival slated for October 1 through 11.

It was also announced that Custom Computers will partner with the Minister of Education to present a new laptop computer to the student with the best BGCSE results and the student with the best BJC results later this year.
